

This is our fifth year in a row of doing this itinerary and, so we can say that we have turned every stone and know every bit of what can be best done on this trip. On this especially designed trip, you will visit one of the colorful festivals in Bhutan, tour the countryside, visit its Dzong's (Fortresses), monasteries, colorful markets, villages, and meet with its friendly people. Descend from temperate valleys of central Bhutan, to rather warm sub-tropical southern border town, through wet rain forest like area. Travel east through vast plains of lush tea gardens and forest and visit Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, once an independent Buddhist Kingdom. A bit away from Gangtok, we overnight in comfortable thatched cottages at Martham, while exploring the rural areas surrounding Rumtek. Drive to Darjeeling and explore what was once a British sanatorium and retreat for the officer of Raj. Finally a flight brings us to the Delhi, the capital of India, from where you can extend your visit further or return home.
All meals in Bhutan, Sikkim & Darjeeling. Only breakfast when in Delhi.

Arrive in Paro by flight from Delhi, Bangkok, Kathmandu or other cities connected by Druk Airlines (Flight costs extra). Upon arrival, you are met and transferred to the hotel. After lunch, visit local sights in Paro. Overnight Hotel Gangtey Palace or similar.
A half day will be dedicated to hike to Takstang, today or next day. The remaining time will be spent touring Paro valley’s sights that also include visiting local family and farm house. Overnight Hotel Gangtey Palace or similar.

Spend the morning visiting the remainder of sights in Paro. Then in the afternoon, drive to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan and overnight near Dochula pass to get spectacular views from Dochula pass in the evening and early next morning

Early morning sunrise views across Dochula pass of Eastern Himalayan Range. Also explore the amazing flora and birds nears the pass. Descend from the Dochula pass to Wangdiphodrang and climb up the black mountains to descend into beautiful Phobjikha Valley. Visit the ancient Gangtey Gompa monastery and stroll around the valley. From Mid Oct till March, one can also see black-necked cranes. Overnight in Dewachen Resort or best available.
En-route to Jakar, visit Trongsa Dzong and the town area. Overnight Mipham Guest House or similar.
Full day to visit monasteries, fortresses, village etc in and around Jakar.
(Oct 2010 trip attends Jampay Lhakhang Drup festival and will also have a brief look at one another festival of Prakar)
Retrace your drive back across Yutongla pass to Trongsa and then across Pele la pass and descend into Punakha and Wangdi valley, where we spend two nights at Meri Phuensum or similar hotel. During our time here, visit the impressive fortress of Wangdiphodrang and Punakha, their small and interesting towns. We also have time to do a short walk to visit Khamsum Chorten and Chimi Lhakhang temple.
(Febuary trip is timed to attend Punakha Tsechu Festival and Sept trip is timed to visit Wangdue Tsechu festival)
Spend the next two nights in Thimphu, the capital, where we visit among other things, the Tashicho Dzong, Traditional Art School, Textile musuems, Handcrafts workshops, Takin Sanctuary and Nunnery and other sights. Overnight in Jumolhari or similar.
(Sept. trip is timed to visit Thimphu Tsechu Festival)
Drive south to Phuntsholing, the border town with India. Overnight Druk hotel or similar.
Drive through the Duar Plains and climb up the hills to Gangtok, capital of Sikkim. In the evening, stroll around the MG Marg and visit Lal Bazaar. Overnight Norkhil hotel or Nethuk House.
In the morning, visit sights in Gangtok. Later drive to Rumtek, where we visit large Karmapa monastery. We stay nearby in pleasant village lodge and take some optional rural walk. Overnight in Martham Village Village Lodge (unique thatched cottages).
After further exploration of Martham village, drive to Darjeeling, visiting a Tea Estate en-route. In the late afternoon, enjoy your high tea with the views of Kanchenjunga and stroll Chowratha Mall. Next day we have full day to tour Darjeeling, including taking a joy ride on the famous ‘ toy train’.Overnights in New Elgin Hotel or similar.
A short drive takes us to Bagdogra airport, from where we fly to Delhi.
Meet and transfer to your hotel. Free evening. Overnight City Park or similar (4star hotel).
Those who wish may travel to Kolkata or drive across to Nepal border instead of flying to Delhi. Discount will be provided accordingly.
